چکیده

A mass-conserving Level-Set method to model bubbly ows is presented. The method can handle high density-ratio ows with complex interface topologies, such as ows with simultaneous occurrence of bubbles and droplets. Aspects taken into account are: a sharp front (density changes abruptly), arbitrarily shaped interfaces, surface tension, buoyancy and coalescence of droplets=bubbles. Attention is paid to mass-conservation and integrity of the interface. The proposed computational method is a Level-Set method, where a Volume-of-Fluid function is used to conserve mass when the interface is advected. The aim of the method is to combine the advantages of the Level-Set and Volume-of-Fluid methods without the disadvantages. The ow is computed with a pressure correction method with the Marker-and-Cell scheme. Interface conditions are satis ed by means of the continuous surface force methodology and the jump in the density eld is maintained similar to the ghost uid method for incompressible ows. In this work incompressible two-phase flows are considered. The aim is to model high density-ratio flows with arbitrary complex interface topologies, such as occur in air/water flows. Between the phases a sharp front exists, where density and viscosity change abruptly. The computational method used in this paper is the Mass Conserving Level-Set method. It is based on the Level-Set methodology, ...

On improving mass conservation of level set by reducing spatial discretization errors

The impact of the Level Set (LS) method on numerical capturing of interfaces (Osher and Fedkiw, 2003; Sethian, 1999) is well known. Widely-reaching applications include fluid mechanics, combustion, computer vision, and material science. As a way of describing immiscible multi-phase flows, the LS was shown to provide a worthy alternative (Sussman et al., 1994) to the already in existence volume-...

A preconditioned solver for sharp resolution of multiphase flows at all Mach numbers

A preconditioned five-equation two-phase model coupled with an interface sharpening technique is introduced for simulation of a wide range of multiphase flows with both high and low Mach regimes. Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact (HLLC) Riemann solver is implemented for solving the discretized equations while tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) interface sharpening method is applied ...

The concept addresses shortcomings in the reseeding algorithm, which maintains resolution of the surface at runtime. These shortcomings result in the misplacement of newly seeded pa...
